Doing Research…in History Posted on March 20th, 2018 by

Calling all Gusties who are conducting research for a History course – the Gustavus Library is here to help.

The History Research Guide will help you navigate various resources and approaches to doing research. Use the tabs at the top to explore various types of sources, including specialized reference works, books and history journal articles.

A lot of research in history involves the use of primary sources. There are multiple ways to find primary sources in our library, depending on what you need. We have everything from books containing collections of primary sources to music recordings to historical magazines. Fortunately, we also have a guide for finding primary source, both within our library and beyond.

You might also be interested in utilizing the resources at the College and Lutheran Church Archives at Gustavus. We have a particular wealth of information and primary sources about the history of the College, some of which is available online.

Finally, you can contact Jeff Jenson, History liaison librarian and College Archivist, or any librarian with research questions or to brainstorm research strategies. We look forward to working with you!
