Celebrate National Library Week

National Library Week PosterNational Library Week kicks off on Sunday, April 7. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.  All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate. This year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Library!” celebrates “the gift of libraries everywhere and the adventures an opportunities they unlock for us every day” (National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and Newbery and Pura Belpré-award winning author Meg Medina, 2024 Honorary Chair).

During National Library Week, we also celebrate Right to Read Day on Monday, April 8. Right to Read Day is a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers everywhere to stand up to censorship. On this day, The State of America’s Libraries Report is released, including the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023, and the Gustavus Library will make sure that we own all of those books.

Ready, Set, Library! What adventures and opportunities does the Gustavus Library offer every day?
