Library at Gustavus (Part 4 of 10)

COMMERCE BUILDING (1889-1897)

In 1889, the library moved out of the Main building and into the Commerce Building. During this time the librarian was J.S. Carlson, professor of history, philosophy, and political science. He secured some of the annual publications of Uppsala University in Sweden, and he and his assistants commenced work on a subject catalog.

I am confused that you are celebrating 50 years of the library, because it is much older than that.
It had the Bernadotte name when I was there 1962-1966, way more than 50 years ago.

    1. Hello Rachel, You are correct. Libraries at Gustavus are much older than 50 years. We’re not celebrating the history of all Gustavus libraries. However, we plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the current Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library. This building is just about at its 50th birthday. Thank you for your question.
