Join us in welcoming three Visiting Librarians this spring: Sarah Brewer, Nathan Burwell, and Abe Nemon. We asked a few questions to get to know them better:
Sarah Brewer
1. Who’s your favorite superhero, and why? Buffy (the vampire slayer), because you can’t go wrong with camp vampires.
2. What’s your favorite restaurant in St. Peter or Mankato? Taking recommendations for places with a good (takeout) grilled cheese!
3. What’s your favorite book? Of recent reads, The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai is that one I keep trying to force my friends to read.
4. What’s your job at the library? I am a reference librarian.
5. What’s your favorite part of working at the library? The students! I love helping students become more confident in their research skills, and get excited about their topics. I particularly love using rare books and archival materials with students.

Nathan Burwell
1. Who’s your favorite superhero, and why? The Hulk, because the inspiration for his character came primarily from literary sources such as Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
2. What’s your favorite restaurant in St. Peter or Mankato? Pagliai’s Pizza.
3. What’s your favorite book? For me, it’s probably One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Although the film is also great, the book will always be superior.
4. What’s your job at the library? I’m a visiting instructor and academic librarian at Gustavus for the spring semester. I’m also a member of the staff enhancement committee.
5. What’s your favorite part of working at the library? I enjoy helping students find the appropriate resources they need to succeed, as well as assisting them with interesting research projects.

Abe Nemon
1. Who’s your favorite superhero, and why? Wonder Woman because she’s a goddess, has a Lasso of Truth and bracelets that can block bullets, and has a really wacky origin story.
2. What’s your favorite restaurant in St. Peter or Mankato? Haven’t been in town that long, but I did have an avocado turkey burger at the Atomic Star Tavern that was really good. And I’ve noticed wild rice is really a thing here!
3. What’s your favorite book? Many books to love, but William Hazlitt’s The Plain Speaker is fan-tastic. The first paragraph of “On the Prose Style of Poets” is pure poetry, which is ironic considering what the essay is about.
4. What’s your job at the library? I’m a reference librarian and librarian for English, History, and Communication Studies.
5. What’s your favorite part of working at the library? I love working with our collections. I’m something of a book hoarder/collector, so I’m having a lot of fun making auspicious finds in the stacks and learning about all kinds of sci-fi and detective series I’d never heard of before.
