Banned Books Week 2017 Resources Posted on September 26th, 2017 by

Welcome to Banned Books Week 2017. Yes, there are still people who seek to challenge and ban books they deem “controversial,” for whatever reason. And yes, libraries continue to play a critical role in educating the public about these threats, as well as the value of unfettered access to information, even to ideas that are unorthodox or unpopular.

As we wrote last year during this week, “[w]e celebrate our freedom to read, we condemn censorship, and in doing so, we remind ourselves that threats to our freedoms still exist.”

Stop by the Library to see our display of banned books near the entrance. Also, follow along with us as we participate in the #RebelReader campaign on Twitter – and compete yourself!

The Gustavus Library is proud to celebrate our freedom to read and to raise awareness of the threats to those freedoms.
