Ancestry.com at the Gustavus Library

The Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library and the College and Lutheran Church Archives are happy to announce a new database: Ancestry.com Library Edition.  This popular consumer online genealogy resource includes birth, death, and marriage records, as well as searchable manuscript census records for the U.S. dating from 1790-1940 (1950 is coming in April 2022).  This database is only available within the library but accessible via laptop, mobile, and desktop interfaces.  Service is limited to five simultaneous users.  Source materials can be downloaded and saved.

We’d love to hear from you. If you have comments or questions about the database or if you have examples of how the database would be useful for course/research projects, please let us know.

  1. This means we have to go to the library to use it? Why does it say online?

    1. Ancestry does not allow the library version of their product to be used outside of libraries. They have a personal membership service (with different levels of access) for those wishing to view content from home. Online in this case refers to high-speed Internet access within the library building.
