Celebrating Black History Month Posted on February 11th, 2015 by

At the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library, we offer many print and online resources that document, commemorate and celebrate Black history and experiences in the United States.

  • Ferguson Resources – In addition to organizing a range of information about the protests in Ferguson, MO, this online guide provides a sample of resources addressing African American history, racism, white privilege and the criminal justice system that are available in our library.
  • Diversity Display – We maintain a permanent display highlighting books that relate specifically to issues of racial and ethnic diversity in the United States, including African American history and contemporary issues related to race.  Browse the shelves of the display in the Gustavus Library Associates Reading Room (opposite the main doors & to the left of the eclassroom).
  • Black Lives Matter Reading List (pdf) – We are proud to provide a link to this excellent resource provided by Left Bank Books. Most of the books on the list are either already available at our library or are on order and will be here soon. You can also pick up a paper copy of the reading list at the Diversity Display.
  • Browse the shelves – If you’re a fan of browsing (like many of us in the library), drop by the third floor of the library to browse our African American history collection (E184-E185.)
