We’re rolling out a new feature in our blog – young adult book reviews! Last spring, we surveyed students about the library (read more about the changes we made based on your input). Many of you mentioned you’d like to see more book reviews. Many of you also said you’re looking for more young adult books. So in our infinite wisdom, we combined the two. We hope these reviews help you find new young adult reads in our library.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.
In this lovely and thoughtful young adult novel, Maddie navigates the world from inside an actual bubble. Diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, Maddie is trapped inside her house. Going outside could quite possibly kill her. Which makes it difficult – but not impossible – to start a delicate relationship with Olly, the boy next door.
Everything, Everything is a lovely read. Maddie is a thoughtful, resilient character whose strength and courage help her break through the bubbles (both literal and metaphorical) that encompass her. Maddie wrestles with her own independence as she learns more about her mother’s history and Olly’s troubled family. And be warned, there’s a twist that may or may not infuriate you.
